What to do around Barjols, our guide to the Haut Var
The Verdon, hilltop villages, markets and calanques: these are the days we genuinely recommend to our guests, straight from the gate.
Book your base campThe estate covers 23 hectares of olive groves, five minutes from Barjols and its shops. From here, almost all of the Var is a day trip: the Verdon gorges and the Mediterranean coast about an hour away, Aix-en-Provence 50 minutes, Cotignac 25 minutes. The right way to plan a stay here is one outing a day, never two.
What follows comes from watching our guests, season after season. In July and August the heat sets the rhythm: leave early, come back for lunch, and give the afternoon to the pool and the hammock. In spring and in September everything loosens up, the sites empty out and the small roads of the Haut Var become a pleasure again.
Six days out from the estate
- Lake Sainte-Croix and the Verdon gorges are 1 hour away, so in summer leave before 8 am.
- Cotignac, 25 minutes away, backs its houses onto a tuff cliff riddled with troglodyte dwellings.
- Tourtour, Aups, Villecroze, Salernes and Sillans-la-Cascade make a hilltop village loop you can do in a day.
- Provencal markets move from village to village, always in the morning, and the Barjols one is 5 minutes away.
- Aix-en-Provence is 50 minutes away, the Mediterranean 1 hour, and Cassis and Saint-Tropez both fit into a day.
- For walking, the Sainte-Baume and Mont Aurelien close the estate's horizon, and Saint-Maximin is 30 minutes away.
